- If you happen to be in the same area as a shooter, take cover under furniture, in closets or behind heavy obstacles.
- If cover is not available, lie flat, quiet and still.
- If you think the shooter is about to shoot you, or if you know the shooter, try talking to him/her in a calm voice and use caution.
- Do not try to attack the shooter or threaten him/her in any way.
- Know what the procedures are at your local church or school for a “lockdown.”
- If you have a cell phone, call 9-1-1 for help.
- Other options for obtaining outside help include setting off the fire sprinklers or security alarm.
- Work with local authorities and your Office of Emergency Management to develop procedures to mitigate risk and exposure to a church or school shooting.
