If there is a biological threat:
- Be prepared to stay in your home for an extended period of time.
- Stay tuned to local radio and TV media for updates regarding potential threats.
- During an actual threat, learn the symptoms associated with exposure to a biological agent and locations of treatment centers.
- Know your community’s warning system and disaster plan including evacuation routes.
- In the event of an actual threat, listen to Public Health officials regarding the possible need to evacuate quickly and take your family preparedness portable kit with you.
- Unlike other disasters, it may take local Public Health officials some time to determine exactly what they are dealing with and to provide information and direction.
- Try to stay calm and patient.
- Should a family member become sick, call your local health care provider before going to the emergency room or walk-in clinic.
